I’m Ruth Burgess, Senior Associate at Lotus Law.

​

I completed my law degree as a mature student at the University of Canterbury and was admitted to the bar in 2010. Before entering legal practice, I worked at Public Trust and I have been practising law since 2015. I specialise in immigration law and have worked with both employers and employees on a wide variety of accreditation and visa applications, as well as requests for visas (under Immigration Act section 61) and to the Minister of Immigration.

I have worked on appeals against Deportation as well as liaising with Immigration New Zealand (INZ) to assist clients. I have provided expert opinions to the court on immigration status and drafted submissions on immigration law changes. I am a member of New Zealand Association for Migration and Investment (NZAMI), an organisation that plays a major role in building the New Zealand immigration industry’s professionalism.

I am proud to assist clients through what can be a difficult and stressful time in their lives as they navigate the New Zealand immigration system. It is always a pleasure to see families united and clients achieve residence.
