Partnership Visas for the Love of Your Life
Bringing your partner, husband or wife to join you in New Zealand is an exciting prospect – one that can take your relationship to the next level or enable you to plan your family’s future in New Zealand.
If you have met someone online or you are in an online relationship after meeting your partner in person here are some visas to consider.
Visitor Visa General
Visitor Visa: Immigration New Zealand
You need to show:​

Proof of the relationship with your partner

Money for your expenses - $1,000/month for maintenance and accommodation OR $400/month if accommodation is pre-paid or supplied by you.

You can sponsor your partner if you are a New Zealand citizen or resident (with no conditions on their visas).

There are 2 types of visa:
(1) Multiple-Entry Visitor Visa​​
Stay up to 6 months in each 12-month period, entering and exiting New Zealand while your visa is valid.

(2) Single-Entry Visitor Visa
A 6-month visa that can be extended by another 3 months. Enter New Zealand once and stay for up to 9 months in an 18-month period. ​​
Partnership Based Visas
These visas are based on the relationship with your partner and on how you meet the Immigration New Zealand partnership criteria. Temporary visa holders have limits on who can sponsor their partners dependant on their type of visa and income threshold.
There are four partnership factors that INZ considers:

Credibility of the partners and the evidence.

How long the couple have lived together and the proof of this.

Genuineness of the relationship.

Stability of the relationship.

The length of time you can prove you have lived together with your partner determines which of the partnership visas you apply for. Here is a rough guide:

0 – 3 months Partnership Visitor visa
Partner of a Worker Visitor Visa: Immigration New Zealand

3/4 months+ Partnership Work visa (subject to the citizenship/visa of the partner)
Partner of a Worker Work Visa: Immigration New Zealand

12 months + Partner of a New Zealand citizen or resident holder Residence visa
Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa: Immigration New Zealand
